Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Shakes the Philippines Today

Philippines (Nov. 27, 2007) – According to the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Department of Science and Technology, through Dr.Renato Solidum Jr., the earthquake measured at magnitude 5.4. This may be enough to destroy public concrete properties but fortunately, there were no reported casualties as of this time. The earthquake hit the Northern and Central Luzon areas and was actually felt here in Metro Manila today.

The magnitude 5.4 earthquake was said to have occurred about 12:26 PM today with an epicenter located 86 kilometers northwest of Lingayen, Pangasinan. In the speech of Senator Mar Roxas, he clearly stumbled upon the slogan “Oras Na” 9 times which could mean anything from what you can see. Even if this is the end for the campaign, a slogan should not actually be as highlighted as what the senator did where many people can’t help but buzz around a possibility that the next candidate for the Liberal Party is indeed, Senator Mar Roxas and this oath taking is some press release to show the force that they have this coming presidential elections.

The first fight happened in 2003, where Manny Pacquiao beat Marco Antonio Barrera in a 12 round championship fight with the featherweight belt at stake. Referee Lawrence Cole decided to call it a knockdown and counted Pacman up to 8. Barrera dominated in the first round but Pacquiao got the next rounds with a lot of storm punches which the commentators described as an avalanche to the head and the body, making the corner men of Barrera throw the towel in the in tears of sadness upon watching the beating and can no longer take it.

It was the first time that the proud Barrera saw the worst beating in his career. Finally, round number 11 took its toll when the towel saw stopping the fight and the corner man embraced their fighter probably saying no more. The fight finally ended with Manny Pacquiao winning by stoppage or TKO and he made the whole of Philippines win that battle and take the glory once more to his homeland. Everybody hopes that this battle of the three division champions will stop the ticking of the clock as the rematch between Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Marco “The Baby Faced Assassin” Barrera in the ring for the second time in what is dubbed as the fight of the century – “Will To Win”. Like other boxers who came to be in the hall of fame for the integrity that they have when they face an opponent in the ring the two fighters are going to give it a try. One is hoping for resurrection from a great defeat and one trying to prove that he has what it takes to conquer three divisions in his career and take back the undisputed pride of being the one and only standing champion when the bell rings at round 12.

According to BusinessWeek Magazine, ZTE is a global telecom titan who once got in with the cellular phone industry by launching a campaign that plans to get in and break the ranks of Nokia and Motorolla by making cellular phones smaller, faster and with high technology capabilities beyond imagination back in 2005 as reported by the magazine.

ZTE just entered into an initial multi-million dollar broadband deal (the NBN deal) with the Philippines ($ 329 million) and this is the root of what was now called as the controversial ZTE Broadband Deal Scam or the NBN deal scam for some corrupt government officials in the Arroyo administration including the first gentleman Mike Arroyo who is being accused of taking part of this ZTE broadband deal scam.

According to Joey De Venecia Jr. who said in the senate investigation that the deal is, “…illegal, grossly disadvantageous to the government and unjustly burdensome to the Filipino people because of the ridiculous overpricing of this project and the huge kickbacks anticipated by those who brokered this anomalous deal”.

Everybody seemed surprised that the first gentleman’s name got involved in this ZTE broadband deal scam but authorities are digging deeper to find out whether the source and the news are viable as primary information to the investigation.

Protesters Picket in Front of Miguel Arroyo’s Building on ZTE broadband Deal Scam

News from Inquirer.net early today reveals that there were people on the picket line in front of the Miguel Arroyo building and they were demanding for some answers for his alleged involvement in the cancellation of the ZTE broadband deal. The protesters on the ZTE broadband deal brought with them some giant replica of the subpoena from the court of public accountability. All dozens of them belong to the militant organization from KMU and Anakpawis and the summons they brought was singed by Juan Dela Cruz judge of the court.

The Philippine Information Agency early today also expressed their optimization stating that all is well even after the cancellation of the ZTE broadband deal and that the Chinese Government, PIA said still maintains a commitment for good ties with the Philippines and the Philippine government. In fact, last Tuesday, the president already decided to cancel the NBN project because of the anomalous controversies that the country got in to. Rumors in the Senate about the ZTE Broadband Deal Scam

There were rumors roaming around early this morning when I watched the news that Senator Cayetano and Senator Manny Villar is being crawled and used by the Arroyo government in an effort to cover up the ZTE broadband deal scam by trying to delay or at least cancel the coming hearings in the senate blue ribbon committee.

Senator Villar spoke and said that he has nothing to hide and there is no such thing as that happening in the senate as he is the presiding minority leader. The same happened with the explanation of Senator Cayetano, trying to deny any involvement to delay the hearings that could possibly lead to the dying of the issue in the people’s minds.

In my own point of view, this scam will only make it even harder for Filipinos to make a significant part of the history in good terms. Gaby is the girl who is in to car racing. she is the Pinoy Big Brother housemate who likes to race cars with tremendous speed and acceleration. “Astig” is what they call this in the local Philippine dialect which literally means a great person with special characteristics beyond imagination with its uniqueness.

Last week as I accidentally watched the Pinoy Big Brother 2nd celebrity edition because my family was also watching the series, it was the episode where one of the girls of the Pinoy Big Brother housemates has to go out because of a racing tradition that she has to attend as a pledge to do every year. Kuya, allowed the housemate, Gaby to go and get her racing gear in the bag and let her go with a cloth to her eyes to not allow her to see where she was going.

She did took the chance to race even if she virtually never had the chance to practice even for a slot. she never had the chance to ride the new machine built for the race for her to ride. In a racer’s rule it should be that the racer must ride his/her car in a practice to see where it could go to when the actual race takes place but this time, Gaby broke the rule. she took the ride that could even send her endangering her own life in the race tracks.
