Surprised at the error of a blog I have been writing to just a couple of days ago. Was frustrated for 2 days that I cannot find the right solution to a problem that occurred to the blog and here’s the actual error text that appeared – Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp() in ………public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 14.

How did this happen? Well it all started when I saw that small icon number that appeared while I am inside my WordPress blog interface for writing. It says upon mouseover that I need to update plugins, themes and the wordpress installation version. So what I did just what I’ve always been doing since is to first to deactivate and then update all my plugins. Afterwards, I have to update the themes / installations of the default wordpress themes inside. The last thing to do will be is to upgrade my wordpress installation.

After the first 2 steps, deactivate and update the plugins, the blog still works find upon visiting. I’ve been cautious about doing this because of past problems so I have to make sure to do things one at a time. Next step is to update the themes inside for the default templates. The last step however is to have the wordpress installation upgraded to the new version.

After the last step described above, I was surprised to find out refreshing the loaded page of my blog on the other browser tab. It didn’t load as it was supposed to and an error message started to pop up above with only a big white space from top to bottom. The only thing I can see is the error message that says Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp() in /home/pass01/public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 14.

That very moment I didn’t know what to do. I tried all solutions posted in the wordpress forum but failed to have my blog revived. I was running out of steps to undergo to get the contents without much of the processes involved in accessing via FTP or Php MyAdmin until I read something new. A tip describing how to get over with the error problem of my blog after a wordpress upgrade to the new version. Here’s what I did.

1) Automatic update inside the  writer’s interface/WP dashboard caused error. I was completely blocked from accessing my blog using wp login.php url. The error message was – Call to undefined function wp() in /home/DOMAIN NAME/public_html/wp-blog-header.php on line 14

Tried a few solutions like removing plugins and resetting the plugin settings to hold using Php MyAdmin and files manager but all that did not work.

Here is the solution I found from somebody named “gartrout

2. Tried to upgrade / modify my disc space allocation from WHM to a bigger space.

3) After that, I tried to update from Fantastico in cPanel and that worked like a charm.
