“Paano ba kumuha ng SOLAS sa Philippines for seafarers”

For seafarers or seaman in the Philippines, one must know how and where to get or apply for SOLAS. But allow me first to let you know what the word, or should I say acronym of SOLAS means. Simply put, it means “safety of life at sea”.

If you are a seafarer by career or if you are looking to become one and work in a ship, cruise ship or any vessel, you will be required to take and finish a basic safety course, one of it is the SOLAS which happened to contain BST or basic seamans training as part of the curriculum requirement. To get one, you must know the different options and the step by step procedures needed to secure and become certified.

seaman_trainingAlso note that you will be obliged to pay for a certain tuition fee in order to qualify to train and study it. I have a breakdown of what you will need to know as taken from the official website of the Maritime Training Council (MTC) and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA). It is also the agency of the Philippine government that gives hopeful seafarers where to enroll for the course and study. MARINA also had the list of duly accredited schools and training centers.

For a related document stated above, you can consult the official website of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA). Also for the seaman’s book. Just for information, if you need to secure and apply for Seaman’s Registration Certificate (SRC) and SOLAS which is also part of the documentary requirements to be given the chance to work overseas as a seaman / seawoman.
