The CNN Hero of the Year 2009 winner is Efren Penaflorida, a proud Filipino. Efren won by votes because the winner will be based on the number of votes. Philippines blog is proud to be one of those responsible for voting for Efren for his Kariton Classroom.

Congratulations Efren Penaflorida and we are all proud of you as Filipinos for winning the CNN Hero of the Year 2009. Efren will not take any of the cash that he won which is $ 25k USD. 10% of his prize will go to the church and the rest as he announced will go to his team of volunteers who will spend it for the children.

Maraming salamat Efren for giving us the inspiration that we need to help and reach out those poor and needy children in our country. Isa kang tunay na Bayani dahil sa ipinakita mong dedikasyon na pagbibigay ng iyong buhay para sa ikagaganda ng buhay ng ibang tao. nawa mabuksan ang puso at isipan ng marami nating kababayan na mayayaman ngunit bulag sa katotohanan na sa paligid nila ay maraming tao ang nangangailangan ng tulong, hindi kailangan ang maraming kayamanan para makagawa ng mabuti, ang kailangan natin ay ang puso na may pag-ibig at malasakit sa pangangailangan ng mga tao.
