Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Shakes the Philippines Today
Philippines (Nov. 27, 2007) – According to the Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) Department of Science and Technology, through Dr.Renato Solidum Jr., the earthquake measured at magnitude 5.4. This may be enough to destroy public concrete properties but fortunately, there were no reported casualties as of this time. The earthquake hit the Northern and Central Luzon areas and was actually felt here in Metro Manila today.
The magnitude 5.4 earthquake was said to have occurred about 12:26 PM today with an epicenter located 86 kilometers northwest of Lingayen, Pangasinan. I was actually right outside when that happened and I feel lucky because people from work actually panicked upon feeling and knowing that there is indeed an earthquake.
I stayed outside for about 10 to 15 minutes when the earthquake happened in fear of being upstairs for an aftershock that could put people in danger including me. I remember the time when the strongest earthquake hit the Philippines last July 16, 1990 when everything stopped including the lives of those badly damaged by the tragic event. This even prompted OFWs to stop efforts to send money to the Philippines in fear of bringing it all to waste but as soon as everything got balanced, everything else returned to normal and I am glad that we are over that catastrophe today and we have fully recovered from it.
