Conchita Carpio Morales is new Ombudsman replacing Merceditas Gutierrez
As per announcement made by the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino III (P-Noy) on his speech yesterday to the Filipino people during State Of the Nation Address (SONA), retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales is now the new Ombudsman. She replaced Merceditas Gutierrez who is another appointee by the former president of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Justice Morales is already 70 years old but she will be serving a full seven-year term at the Office of the Ombudsman as dictated by the law, less she resigns.
She was chosen amongst other competitive nominees for the vacated position, namely: former Justice Secretary, retired Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Artemio G. Tuquero, lawyer Gerard A. Mosquera and Justice Undersecretary Leah T. Armamento.
