This is a wiki of Lyoto Carvalho Machida a.k.a “The Dragon”. Lyoto was born May 30, 1978 in Salvador Brazil and is a Brazilian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. He fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in the light heavyweight division and is currently undefeated in his professional career. Lyoto’s wife is named Fabyola and he only had 1 child.

He is a 3rd son to Japan Karate Association Brazil branch official. Machida actually grew in Belem and started learning and training in karate at an early age of only 3. At 13, he is already a black belter in level. He also got interested in other fighting sports such as sumo wrestling and his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Back then, he is only 15 years old. He won numerous amateur and championship tournaments from different places in the world and had a brother, Shinzo who is also a second champ in Shotokan Australia 2006. He also had a journalist brother named Kenzo in Brazil.

College Undertakings

Lyoto Machida in college trained with Japanese pro-wrestler Antonio Inoki. He also trained Muay Thai and wrestling at the New Japan Pro Wrestling dojo in Tokyo. Watch the video of one of his fights from YouTube below.

Early Influence in the Ring

Ranked as the number 1 light heavyweight fighter in the world, Machida trained with Antonio Inoki (the legendary wrestling fighter) in his early fights and is currently the number 4 pound for pound fighter in the world as rated by Sherdog, the largest website in the world dedicated for mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Lyoto is also a natural born Brazilian which makes him by his surname a Brazilian-Japanese.

Professional UFC Career

Mahida’s father is also a Shotokan karate master whose name is Yoshizo Machida. On the list of his defeated professional fighters in the UFC include Thiago Silva, Tito Ortiz (former UFC light heavyweight champion), Stephan Bonnar, Rich Franklin (former UFC middleweight champion), BJ Penn (current UFC lightweight champion and former welterweight champion) and his last victim, Rashad Evans (former UFC light heavyweight champion). Add credit to this amazing UFC fighter, Lyoto Machida is an undefeated champion who has never lost a single round in his professional career. He is the first and only blemish to the octagon ring record of Evans when he took the light heavyweight belt from him on May 23, 2009.

The pro debut fight of Lyoto happened in the UFC 67 where he defeated Sam Hoger by unanimous decision. He was also able to face at Pride Fighting Championship with Kazuhiro Nakamura back in UFC 76 and defeated him there as well as Tito Ortiz in UFC 84. In the video of one of his fights back when Antonio Inoki was beside him as a promoter you can see that Lyoto Machida is a left handed fighter (south paw).
