MMK Angel Locsin Episode Trigggers Media Abuse Comments

While many have commented in my post about the MMK episode “Blusa” where 2 great artists (Angel Locsin and Dimples Romana) in the Philippine film industry saw light in giving justice to the characters, there are now hot issues on media abuse of the story. We all know that supposedly, MMK features true-to-life stories of true and existing people under their own (mostly) difficult times and ordeals in life.

2 great comments in my blog post for this episode caught my attention. One came from a certain “Andro” from Victorina (please read  below)

Fact be told.

There is a Nemia in San Pablo as shown in a broadcast by ABS-CBN News to put a semblance of reality to that MMK Blusa episode.
What they failed to mention or intentionally mention was if Nemia really graduated from UPLB.
Truth of the matter is there has not been a Summa Cum Laude Graduate of UPLB for Agriculture for the last two decades.
Nemia is now commonly known in San Pablo, Laguna as MAYDA. For she is always seen carrying a cat
MAYDA is a contraction for MAY DAlang pusa.

Only shows, who wrote that episode let his/her/its imagination run wild and put in too much artistic freedom, hence, the inconsistencies in the story.

and just now another from a Professional Heckler, attesting the he personally talked to the UPLB administration about the person involved in the MMK episode that night where Angel Locsinplayed the role.

please read my take on this issue.
i have talked to the UP administration and i just discovered the utter ignorance/neglect on the part of Maalaala Mo Kaya.
Sobrang gawa-gawa ang summa cum laude angle.

elmo said:

If this is true then i guess ABS should apologize to UP.
And also reprimand the writer/researcher of that episode.

bok noi

Ito’y isang hayagang pagbaluktot, paglapastangan at pagyurak sa katotohanan… para ano? Para lamang mapataas ang dami/antas ng mga manonood ng nasabing programa?
Malala na kaya? Malala na kaya!!!

In fairness to the actors and actresses who were in that episode, there seem to be no problem with the acting or portrayed characters but only the writing of the story which I agree is very frustrating for some students who study in UP. Imagine the image that a UP summa cum laude or so graduate can’t find a decent job in Metro Manila only to land dancing in a night bar? MMK did failed to give justice on the truth about a UP graduate not being able to take any job was so absurd according to some comments. To some, it is even unbelievable while to others, it is totally false information. The viewers do not deserve this at all knowing that MMK was supposed to tell true stories.

While this is the case, many comments at the Professional Heckler’s blog were demanding a public apology by the MMK management or to the least, by the writer who did the episode.

I would like to leave a question regarding this issue – If the media will continue to do such acts of misinformation to the public (if allegations were true in the comments I have mentioned above), who do you think will suffer more? How and who is the media to put emphasis on false information knowing that there are a lot of the viewers looking up to them? Is it just a mere play for the rankings against a competing network or is it just plain mistake? Is it for money earned by making people believe something that is not? Then what is it for? Whatever happened to media responsibility today?

My take… The internet my dear friends at MMK management of ABS-CBN is no longer the slow connection that it used to be back in the 90’s. Surely you must be the first to know that and that you cannot just give us what you want us to believe and get away with rankings using great talent and authority in rankings. We are asking that you enlighten us if we are wrong about things but be responsible on your part. The media and the internet made us the intelligent viewers and critics that we are now and our eyes will be up 24/7 because of that.

  • triple says:

to those who has a nonchalant attitude on this matter, may God be with you. The bigger issue is that people were misled. I heard this story from a friend and I said that this was preposterous. However, the impact is far reaching that we thought. Because of that claim, students who are poor yet intelligent can lose hope because of this. But that’s why they are intelligent…they know better…I do not watch these shows and I encourage my siblings and relatives not to because it highlights the negative rather than the positive in people. Let us not allow ignorance to proliferate. There are far more bigger things in life than money and profit. I salute those people who has the proper values and know what is important and what’s not. There is still hope for us Pinoys.

  • to BOBONG mayda: says:

    saan ka ba nag aral?
or i should say nag aaral ka ba???? hindi bitter ang mga taga UP. malamang hindi mo maiintindihan yun dahil hindi ka taga UP.

the issue here is the credibility of UP and the credibility of MMK.

naintindihan mo ba yung sinabi ko???

    boba.

MMK and their writers are arrogant and Lazy to the Max, plus Very Greedy to the Ratings. Very insulting to UPLB ,and UP as a general. Abs-Cbn, MOderate your Greed! – soldering102.blogspot.com

THE STORY IS NOT FAR FROM REALITY SANA KUNG MAY INTERNET PA NOONG ARAW, MAS MADALI SA KANYA MAKAHANAP NG WORK . MARAMI PANG MAS MESIRABLE ANG BUHAY SA KANYA, NA HINDI NATIN ALAM. NABUANG DIN SIGURO SIYA DAHIL BASTA TOO MUCH INTELLIGENCE DAW, LOW ESTEEM SA MGA FRUSTRATIONS.
THE STORY REALLY GOOD AT MAY MORAL LESSONS SA LAHAT, LALO RIN SA MGA PARENTS NOT TO EXPECT TOO MUCH OF THEIR CHILDREN DESPITE OF THEIR TALENTS & CAPACITIES.

YOU CAN SEE IT BY YOURSELF. IT’S NOT FAIR FOR MS. LOCSIN. WHY THEY WROTE ABOUT HER WHEN THEY ALSO BANNED THE APPRECIATIONS OF HER FANS. PLS DONT DELETE THIS POST.
I AM JUST A CONCERNED CITIZEN FOR MS. ANGEL

  • Toni says:

I think the story is true… Agribusiness is a different course from Agriculture so I think the Agri graduates are barking at the wrong tree… i haven’t seen the episode but based on what i read, she could not get a job because she failed her psychological test every time she applies for a job….

But, I guess what’s weird here is probably nobody sent a letter. It must be that the show’s writers were inspired by this urban legend in San Pablo called Mayda…

Some students in UP do break down from academic pressure which is pretty understandable being the premier university and all…

  • mayda says:

basta UP hindi lahat magaling. bulok!

  • balot says:
